Tanis Strip Brush Materials

TERMINOLOGY

Fill Material Size:
Thickness of a single filament or wire size in inches.  Nylon ranges from .003" to .125" and wire from .003"-.020".
Crimped Fill Material:
A wave in filament or wire.  Produces denser brush in appearance.  Provides a continuous and more even brushing action.  The crimp is measured by amplitude and frequency.

Level Fill Material:
Filament or wire is straight.

TYPES OF FILL MATERIAL - SYNTHETICS

Nylon-Type 6:
Quality filament and provides durability at a lower cost for several applications.

Nylon-Type 6.6:
Higher quality, medium-priced nylon with good bend recovery and better wet and dry stiffness compared to type 6.

Nylon Type 6.12:
Highest quality and superior performance nylon used in wet and low water absorption applications.  Advantages include excellent bend recovery, high heat and abrasion resistance.

Nylon-Conductive:
Anti-static type 6.6 nylon made available in .010", .016" or .020" fill material diameters.  Made in either 20 or 100 percent electrically conductive nylon.  The 20 percent is mixed with same size type 6.6 to maintain an economical cost.

Polypropylene:
Low cost versatile filament used in several applications especially where cost is factor.  Tough filament, excellent wet stiffness, and resistant to most petroleum solvents, oils, greases, most acids and chemicals.

Polyester:
Characteristics and properties are similar to nylon.  Maintains wet stiffness better than nylon Type 6 and Type 6.6

Abrasive Nylon:
Nylon monofilament impregnated with either silicone carbide or aluminum oxide.  Long wearing material available in several filament diameters and grit sizes.

TYPES OF FILL MATERIAL - ANIMAL HAIR

Horse Hair:
Medium high cost material.  Black or grey in color and has very good durability.  Soft to slightly stiff texture gives scratchless cleaning for highly polished surfaces.

Goat Hair:
Very fine hair, white in color and often used for very short trim soft brushes.

TYPES OF FILL MATERIAL - WIRE

Steel:
High carbon wire with excellent fatigue resistance available in .003" to .006" or high fatigue tempered wire with excellent cutting qualities available in .006" to .020".  Crimped wire only from .003" to .020".

Stainless Steel-Type 304:
Highly resistant to corrosion and higher temperatures.  Often effective in contamination areas and after-rust areas.  Level or crimped wire from .003" to .020".

Stainless Steel-Type 316:
Superior for high corrosion resistance and more effective in highly contaminated applications.  Crimped wire only from .003" to .020".

Brass:
Non-ferrous and softer wire compared to steel or stainless steel.  Effective for reducing heavy static in a concentrated area.  Available in crimped or level wire from .003" to .020".

Phosphorous Bronze:
Non-ferrous wire and more temper than brass with non-corrosive properties.  Available in crimped or level from .003" to .020".

TYPES OF FILL MATERIAL - PLANT FIBER
Tampico:
Produced from stalk of Agave plant in Mexico.  Soft to medium texture and off white in color.  Able to withstand high temperatures and will not melt, but will discolor.  Fiber softens when it absorbs water.

TYPES OF FILL MATERIAL - MIXTURES
Special Mixtures:
Several materials can be mixed for special applications.  Mixtures include: nylon and brass, horse hair and nylon, horse hair and brass, synthetics and wire and other special mixtures can be supplied.
