Will the threads in the aluminum pivot ball wear out by taking fixtures and adapters in and out? 1. What makes the PivotLok PL 325 so different from the other units out there? This is what makes the PivotLok PL 325 truly.... UNIQUE!
The PivotLok PL 325 is a brand new technology in work positioning. Other units require that you not only have to loosen with the turn of a screw, the unlocking of a cam or the release of hydraulic pressure to move your work piece, but you also have to do the same thing to secure your work in place. That means that you have to consciously and purposely retighten them to the proper tension to safely and securely lock them in place.
The PivotLok PL 325 has done away with that, meaning you do not have to retighten anything to accomplish a secure locking of your work piece in place. The PivotLok PL 325 has also done away with part of the loosening process. Instead of turning a screw or loosen a knob all you have to do is depress a lever and to tighten it to a preset tension all you have to do is let the lever go. If your hand happens to slip while the tension is released the letting go of the release lever will lock your work in place. No having to turn a screw. It's that easy! This not only makes using the PivotLok easier and faster to use but it makes it safer as well. 2. Is the PivotLok PL 325 more of a "consumer" type of product? Not at all! As you will read below the design build quality says it all. The PivotLok PL 325 was designed to be as at home in a fast pace industrial manufacturing environment as it is on your work bench at home. It has been designed from the ground up to give you a lifetime of use with minimal service. 3. Can you tell us about the design and build quality? Here are just some of the features of the Pivot Lok 325: Aircraft quality, porosity free casting made from 356 aluminum heat treated to a T6 condition. All other aluminum parts made from 6061-T6 solid billet. Epoxy powder coat finish. All steel parts in a wear location are heat treated for a lifetime of use. Stainless steel thread liner in the pivot ball. Heat treated steel pins and roller. All components are CNC machined to close tolerances. All assembly performed on a PivotLok PL 325. 4. Do we use the PivotLok PL 325? We use the PivotLok PL 325 every day to assemble the PivotLok PL 325! It's like a parent/child relationship. The base casting (child) is mounted to a "U" shaped (horse shoe shaped) holding fixture mounted to the parent PivotLok PL 325 on a rigid pedestal. It would be a tough job without it and not very efficient either. Raising a child can be a difficult job without a PivotLok PL 325 except that with the PivotLok PL 325 there are no parent/teacher conferences. 5. How much weight can the PivotLok PL 325 hold? The PivotLok PL 325 has been tested with a 120 lb. dead load 2" from ball center at a 45 degree angle. We do not recommend working with this much weight though. We recommend a maximum load of 40 lbs.. The size of the work piece and the distance from the center of the pivot ball also will determine what load can be used. 6. How should the PivotLok PL 325 be mounted? We recommend a solid mounting surface such as a workbench or a pedestal securely anchored to the floor. The PivotLok PL 325 was not designed to be used un-mounted. The more solid and rigid the mounting surface the more you will appreciate the PivotLok PL 325 design and build quality. 7. Can I use the PivotLok PL 325 for machining operations? NO! The PivotLok PL 325 was not designed to be a holding or positioning tool on machinery of any type. We do not recommend using the PivotLok PL 325 for any machining operations or any uses on machinery at all. Machining operations can exert pressures that can exceed the PivotLok PL 325's ability to hold securely causing harm to the work piece, the PivotLok PL 325, and worse, can cause injury to the operator. 8. What attachments are included the PivotLok PL 325? The PL325 work positioner includes a 3/4" x 2" threaded adapter.
We are developing a full line of various adapters and fixtures for a wide variety of applications. We work with our vendors and customers to design and produce adapters and fixtures for their particular needs, and offer these items for general sale. Keep checking back! Let us know if you have an idea! 9. Can I make my own fixtures? You bet you can! As a matter of a fact anybody with little mechanical experience can too. The PivotLok PL 325 was specifically designed for you to do that. The female thread in the pivot ball is a 3/4-16 thread which is typically known as a "three quarter fine" thread. Fasteners and "all thread" rod are easily available at your local hardware store. With a little ingenuity, you can make about any holding device you require. 10. Will the threads in the aluminum pivot ball wear out by taking fixtures and adapters in and out? Not any time soon. If they were just aluminum threads they would wear out in no time flat. The threads in the aluminum pivot ball have a special stainless steel thread liner for a much longer thread life than aluminum. If the thread liner wears out it can be easily replaced. We just felt this was the right way to do it.
